- 'A little in love' by Susan Fletcher -

'A little in love' by Susan Fletcher

Have any of you seen 'Les Miserables'? Well this is Eponine's story from that play. I haven't seen the play but that didn't make a difference I don't think, and I still understood it. I am going to write you out the blurb, just so you get an idea of what the book is about.

                                                                            Paris, 1832.
A street girl lies alone in the darkness, clutching a letter to her heart.

Eponine remembers being a child: her swing and the peach tree, and the  baby brother which she loved. But mostly she remembers being miserable. Taught to lie and cheat, and to hate the one girl, Cosette, who might have been her friend.

Now, at sixteen, the two girls meet again and Eponine has one more chance. But what is the price of friendship - the love of a boy?

So I am going to sum up this book in 3 words, which I am going to do for every review.
Review in 3 words: cruel, beautiful, deep.

This book is about a girl who has it all, but is taught to be cruel to everyone around her and her family teachers her that kindness gets you nowhere. She is horrible to the poor girl who could have been her friend and is made into a slave. She tries to be good, but her family hates her for it and she ends up doing something she will carry around in her heart for the rest of her life. When she finally falls in love, she finds herself doing what she should have done this whole time.
Be kind.
She does everything she can to make him happy, no matter what it takes.

I found this book quite depressing, as Eponine's personality was very sweet, but growing up the way she did, she turns into a horrible little girl on the outside, but never on the inside. And she hates herself for it which leads her into a different person.

Rating this book out 5: 3

Thanks for reading!
